Penny Lindop Designs at Spring Fair Birmingham 2016[/caption] January and February are tough, but exciting, months in the gift industry, following on so closely from Christmas. We go to 2 trade shows during this time, and tomorrow is the day I set off for the International Spring Fair at the NEC Birmingham. Despite the hard work, I love the shows and love meeting so many interesting retailers and designers. People travel so far to attend the shows, either as exhibitor or visitor, and the storie..
I thought I'd help any of you who are wondering whether to change your hair style - to fringe or not to fringe. Have a look at some of these - some great styles here, I thought!
And then, how about this look:
I do love the Norfolk Show, and I do love the sheep. I might be inspired to add a few new breeds to my range of sheep cards....
I flew out to Taiwan towards the end of August, so I still haven’t been here for too long, but so far I love it! It’s very different from what I’m used to, but that’s definitely not a bad thing.
I came here with a couple of friends, and together we have started working (teaching English to very cute and clever Taiwanese children) and exploring the Island.
So far we’ve been to night markets, where we have seen copious amounts of very odd looking food, and smelt the “stinky tofu”, which I’m not..
There's not much opportunity to see much of the shows I attend when I'm on my own, but here are just a few bits that caught my eye while walking in in the mornings:
These alpines greeted me as I walked along to the Country Living Magazine's marquee each day
There were some fantastic gardens designed and created by various schools, all themed around children's books. These hedgehogs amused me
And some beautiful plantings designed with such creativity - I feel some new card designs c..
Well, it's still pretty wet under foot down on our local fen, Scarfe Meadow. A week ago it was totally flooded, but I didn't manage to get down there with a camera. Today I just took a few on my phone - not a particularly nice day, just grey, a bit cold, but I always love going down to these meadows (when the cows aren't in there!!) This is normally just a little brook, but it's burst it's banksI love all the reflections - it's sparked a little idea. Inspiration can come from all sorts of plac..
So, earlier in the month mum and I took a trip to the NEC for the huge international Spring Fair for the gift trade. We had to postpone the visit a day or two due to the unexpected snow!
We’ve been exhibiting at this trade show for quite a few years, so it was a bit of a change to not be working and having a look around instead and doing a bit of research for some new ideas. The show is the biggest that I’ve been to, and it’s always quite fun to look around the card hall, which is wher..
Our interest in rare and ancient breeds of agricultural animals goes back to when Penny worked in archaeology. While working in the British Museum she became interested in ancient technology and explored aspects of early European textiles. This naturally led on to an interest in the ancient breeds of sheep, and now, some 25 years later, this interest has re-awakenened. Much inspiration comes from watching these wonderful animals.
We are currently working on our range of ancient breed gree..
It may only be the beginning of October, but here at Penny Lindop Designs, we’ve been busy, busy, busy on our preparations for the Christmas period. In fact, we actually had to start thinking about Christmas at the beginning of the year when we were designing the 2012 calendar. It’s always quite a challenge to come up with new ideas for every month, so if you have any designs on your wishlist for future editions please let us know! I hope you like my idea for the Olympics in July...
I came across this challenge, 30 days of creativity quite by chance by following various links of people I like in Facebook, and thought: yes, I could do that. I’m up for the challenge. But because life is pretty full at the moment I set myself the additional challenge of a half hour time limit.
30 days to make a habit; "Your brain is like a muscle. When you exercise it, it gets stronger."
Well, much to my amazement I got to the end of the 30 days with something sketched or created every..
With summer now officially underway, there are lots of things to look forward to, including playing a bit of tennis if you were inspired by Wimbledon. Are you a Rodger or Rafa fan? What about Novak? Or did you think Andy could do it?! For any tennis fans this new greeting card design is perfect
or if you prefer to enjoy the summer with a glass of pimms and a slice of strawberry cake, this may be more appropriate
Living in Norfolk has its benefits, one of them being the Nor..
